St-Ambroise Oatmeal Stout

Stats

5%ABV / 45 IBU / $13.55 per 6x341mL (BB 16 AL 30)

Appearance

Near-black body with auburn highlights at edge of glass. Medium carbonation with visible bubbles. Large almost lager-like head.

Aroma

Dark chocolate, figs, soy sauce, bread/muffin, some nutiness

Taste

Bitter with fig focus initially. Some darker chocolate at finish. As beer warms, hops become clearer with classic Cascade notes of citrus appearing way in the background.

Mouthfeel

Medium-viscous (think Guiness Extra)

Comments

A very good sessionable stout. Much more complexity than I would have expected at 5%. Where the stout has backed off somewhat from the roasted and coffee notes it has let dark fruit an nutty qualities shine through.

Food Paring

Red meat or heavier vegetarian fair. I would recommend something like a pepper steak to balance the sweetness in the stout. As per most stouts, chocolate-based desserts would also work quite well.
